Executive Summary
The mandate across government to create a
participatory, transparent and collaborative
environment and to implement Web 2.0/Gov 2.0
strategies creates a balancing act with
compliance. Transparent and participatory
government must be accessible and available to
everyone-truly reinforcing the principal of
citizen-centric government. However, this does
not negate the obligation of the government to
also protect private and sensitive information.
Gov 2.0 technologies like, social networking,
blogging, Wikis, etc. can help governments
engage more effectively, efficiently, and
directly with its citizens. It also creates a
new policy landscape as agencies rush to create
their strategies for the use of these emerging
and rapidly evolving solutions. Government
agencies must meet these requirements. On one
side of the see-saw is the need to give
constituents access to information that should
be available and on the other is the protection
of information that should not be available.
Balancing the two often conflicting requirements
can create a challenge if not managed properly.
This whitepaper will explore how government
agencies can meet their obligations to provide
citizen centered government solutions while at
the same time maintaining their statuary and
regulatory compliance requirements using
Microsoft SharePoint® Server 2010 and HiSoftware
Compliance Sheriff® for SharePoint®.
