HiSoftware was founded in late 1996 as “Hiawatha Island Software Company,” in 1996 to provide custom software and consulting services for State and Federal government agencies as well as corporate customers, read more about the founder, which it continued to provide over the next two years, adding new employees to support a rapidly growing customer base.

HiSoftware expands consulting practices with the addition of new employees to support a growing customer base. HiSoftware provided advanced system engineering to develop and support Web enabled applications for government organizations. HiSoftware was founded as a company committed to software engineering excellence and innovation. |
| 1998 |
In answer to customer requirements, in 1998 the engineering team at HiSoftware released their first commercial software product, TagGen, the metatag generator. In it’s first few months, TagGen received wide acceptance with over 1,000,000 downloads, signifying the beginning of HiSoftware's "Out of the Box" software solutions. Throughout the next year, HiSoftware released additional products to support Web developers in their efforts to manage their Web content for search and retrieval both through Intranet and Internet Search Engines. These solutions were designed to support the needs of HiSoftware’s government customers, but at the same time provided a cost-effective, state-of-the-art Web management solution for small, medium and enterprise Web site managers. |

In 1999, HiSoftware Company continued to focus its Web content management product line, refining its desktop solutions and releasing integrated components for Allaire HomeSite, Microsoft FrontPage and Microsoft Office. HiSoftware expanded its product breadth with the launch of its enterprise back-end search and cataloging solutions.
Throughout 1999, HiSoftware solutions receive wide acceptance within the search and retrieval community. In an early effort to educate and support it’s customers, HiSoftware created HiSoftware publishing, to provide cost-effective educational materials for Web managers interested in creating and managing quality Web sites. In 1999, HiSoftware Publishing released it’s first titles on “Web Site Management” and “Understanding Internet Traffic.”
In 1999, HiSoftware provided software and consulting solutions for several States and Federal Government “Advanced Search” programs, including the State of Washington-Washington Government Information Locator Service (WA-GILS), the Federal Government-Advanced Search Facility (ASF) and the Federal Government Information Locators Service (GILS), and the US Geological Survey, National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII). HiSoftware provided software solutions that were among the core technologies to create and launch these important government initiatives.
At the same time, HiSoftware expanded its sales force and sales “went global” with customers in over 105 countries worldwide. |

HiSoftware expands and accelerates its commitment to the “promise of the Internet”, fine-tuning it Web management technology for Searchability, Privacy and Accessibility requirements. HiSoftware releases its first Java based technology and at the same time expands relationships with Microsoft corporation and Inktomi, through integrated search and Web content management solutions.
HiSoftware expands its role as a leader in content testing and remediation for search optimization and content quality with the release of its content quality solutions AccVerify, AccRepair and AccMonitor Server |

HiSoftware continues to lead in search and content quality solutions with a customer list expanding to cover almost every federal agency as well as hundreds of colleges and universities and worldwide government institutions. HiSoftware launches its Educational Outreach Programs, through software purchase programs for schools and universities to support education and promotion of accessible, quality Web development.
HiSoftware and Microsoft Corporation partner to provide a no-cost Web content quality and accessibility solution to users of Microsoft FrontPage.
HiSoftware’s XML Technology provides one of a kind for validation and search that even today remains the most unique and powerful XML Quality testing solution. |

HiSoftware’s vision, leadership and commitment to Internet accessibility is recognized with it’s win of the prestigious 2002 da Vinci award in recognition for its software's delivery on promise of making the world a better place for everyone.
HiSoftware solutions continue to gain expanding worldwide acceptance, and HiSoftware expands its partnerships to provide real advances to the quality and usability of internet and intranet content. HiSoftware adds key world-wide consultants to it’s advisory Board and broadens the expanding reach of its product lines. HiSoftware partners with Human Factors International and Lighthouse International to provide software solutions to support their consulting practices. HiSoftware co-sponsors international conference focusing on accessibility, in Australia, the United States and around the world.

Continuing to deliver on it’s product roadmaps HiSoftware becomes the first company to integrate Privacy, Accessibility, Searchability, Site Quality into one product that runs for all major Office Platforms and Enterprise Servers.
HiSoftware partners with non-profit partners to create “Cynthia Says”, a world-class free online accessibility-testing portal. Cynthia Says and HiSoftware’s entire accessibility product line is officially endorsed by the American Council of the Blind, as “best of breed” technology for ensuring the accessibility of Web content. This project expands HiSoftware’s Educational outreach programs, through the availability of no-cost desktop software to k-12 schools.
